As many as 74 people have been detected with infection from scrub typhus in Sudurpaschim State.
According to State Health Directorate Dipayal, the patients of scrub typhus are found in all seven districts of the Sudurpaschim State except Achham.
Hemraj Joshi, Vector Control Inspector of the Directorate, shared that 35 people were found infected from the disease in Dadeldhura, 11 in Baitadi, 19 in Kailali, three in Doti and two each in Darchula, Bajhang and Kanchanpur. However, most of the patients have returned home after receiving treatment, he said, adding some are still being treated in nearby hospital in normal condition. Scrub typhus caused by a bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi is spread to people through bites of infected chiggers (larval mites).
The most common symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, headache, body aches, and sometimes rash. "The disease can be cured if it is timely diagnosed and treated", he said, adding the infection otherwise causes damage to the brain, liver and lungs. ---
